Meet Alexandra

I am so thrilled to welcome sweet Alexandra to the BDP Team! We have been spending a lot of time together over the past 2 years as she went from intern to working alongside me at bridal shows, events and weddings. We even traveled together all the way to sunny California where we had an amazing time photographing a beautiful vineyard wedding and the stunning landscape along the coast. Her demeanor is charming and bright, she is passionate about wedding and lifestyle photography, and she loves Jesus. Alexandra is one of the hardest working people I know and I am so excited for her to join the team!

Alexandra is our new Associate Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer. She will be accepting weddings that will take place next year, and her full portfolio and online gallery will be available for viewing soon. Until then, she will be spending as much time with me as possible! In the studio, at sessions, at weddings, you name it. I am so excited for her future here at BDP! I’ve interviewed her for the blog, so you all can get to know her a bit better.

What is your name?
My full name is Karen Alexandra Barfield, but I like to go by Alexandra.

Where are you from?
I was born in Atlanta, GA but quickly after, moved to Memphis,TN where I lived for 8 years before moving to Carrboro, NC.

Why do you love photography?
This is such a hard question! I love photography for so many reasons. My number one reason would have to be because I love to capture the little moments that many people miss. Whether that is the smile after your first kiss, or the spontaneous hug your child gives you during one of our family sessions. My favorite part about photography is telling a story, and those little moments are what make that come to life!

What are you passionate about?
Besides photography, I am passionate about working with kids. I currently work with two wonderful groups of elementary students to help them improve their writing skills. It is one of the most rewarding activities I get to do. I am also passionate about aerial ballet which I have been doing for about 5 years now.

What is your favorite non-photography blog?
Well there are quite a few blogs that I love! I would have to say that one of my favorites would be Poppy Deyes who is a British lifestyle blogger. I love how she writes what she is passionate about, and I also really enjoy how she stages her photos.

What is your favorite food?
If coffee counts then it is 100% that! I couldn’t live without a cup in the morning. Aside from my love for coffee, my favorite food would have to be pomegranates. They are the perfect fruit to go in salad or eat on its own!

Who is your favorite music artist?
This is an answer that changes daily. At the moment I really enjoy Tori Kelly because not only is her music amazing, she isn’t afraid to be completely unique with how she writes her songs and how she performs them.

Your favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies include baking, reading books, and singing with the wonderful ladies in my acappella group!

What is your favorite treat? (dessert, etc)
My favorite treat would have to be a simple red velvet cupcake. I absolutely love to bake them and they make for the perfect dessert after a long day.

What are you grateful for today?
Today, I am grateful for my family who has been so wonderful to me while I am crazy busy with school and work. A day never goes by where I don’t think about how lucky I am to have the family that I do.

What is your current favorite book?
For a long time I have loved John Green. My favorite of his would have to be The Fault In Our Stars because it is so beautifully done and Green does not hold back with the emotion of the characters.

What do you love about a wedding?
Most people would say that they love the first kiss, or the look on the grooms face as the bride is walking down the isle. While I adore these moments, my favorite part is the first dance. Being a dancer, there is no better way to express your love than through dance. Even though it’s a simple ballroom dance, you can really see how much the couple belongs together.

Where would we find you on a Friday night?
On a Friday night you will most likely find me spending the evening with my closest friends. We all love to try new restaurants so we will go to places like Raleigh, Hillsboro or a little closer to home to find the best places to eat!

What’s something that no one knows about you?
I’m a pretty open person, so most people know a lot about me! I’d have to say that one thing not many people know about me would be that I have my own little blog called Brunette & Co. Not many people know about it in general because it’s just a fun place for me to write about some of my favorite things, or what’s happening in my life at the moment!
